COVINGTON, Louisiana – The American College of Cardiology awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification on St. Tammany Health System for its expertise and commitment in treating patients receiving transcatheter valve repair and replacement procedures, based on STHS multidisciplinary teams, formalized training, decision-making and registry performance.
St. Tammany is one of only two such certified programs in the New Orleans metro area and one of only five in the state of Louisiana.
The cardiology team at St. Tammany is an excellent example of the value the STHS partnership with Ochsner Health brings to patients on the Northshore. The TAVR program involves heart specialists from Ochsner and St. Tammany as well as technology and expertise in the STHS cardiac catheter labs (cath labs).
ACC Transcatheter Valve Certification is an external review process paired with established national clinical data to monitor patient safety and outcomes in transcatheter valve therapies.
“St. Tammany has demonstrated its commitment to providing its Northshore community with excellent heart care,” Deepak L. Bhatt MD MPH FACC, chair of ACC Accreditation Management Board, said. “We are proud to award St. Tammany Health System this Transcatheter Valve Certification.”
The certification uses established national clinical measures to support clinical decisions and links process improvement to patient outcomes. Hospitals that achieve this certification learn best practices for implementing evidence-based medicine to support patient-centered decision-making and can track key performance metrics to better identify opportunities for improvement.
