Nurse Residency Program

Nurse Residency Program

Nurses are central to our daily successes at STHS. That’s why we set them up for success from Day 1.

Nurse Residency Program

The St. Tammany Health System Nurse Residency Program is accredited as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

Our accredited program is a seven-month program designed to transition the new graduate nurse successfully to the role of a proficient and expert registered nurse. The program provides an infrastructure to expand the knowledge and skills to move from entry-level competent nurse. We have four tracks: acute adult care, emergency department, critical care, and mother-baby.

The individualized orientation ranges from 14 to 20 weeks in length.

Current program goals include:

  • Help resident nurses grow professionally by presenting a project that demonstrates our organizational practices.
  • Improve clinical judgment and clinical competence.
  • Demonstrate excellence in patient care, especially with medication administration.
  • Residents report feeling satisfied with their career after a year of service.
  • 80% retention rate of our nurse residents after two years at St. Tammany Health System.

We don’t want to brag …

(But we’re going to anyway)
