Eighteen months is a long time for anything. But it’s been a particularly long slog for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals working on the COVID front lines since March 2020.
So what’s it really like working in a COVID unit every day?
That question was recently put to two of our St. Tammany Health System registered nurses, Brittany Applewhite Lam and Caitlyn Shorter, for an informational video assembled by St. Tammany Parish Government.
They painted a heart-rending portrait of innovation and heroics but also of grief, exhaustion and frustration that so many people are dying from what is now a preventable disease.
Listen to Brittany and Caitlyn describe their experiences in the embedded video, which we encourage you to share. You can find a longer version at the St. Tammany Parish YouTube channel.
And if you haven’t already, please schedule your vaccine, which St. Tammany Health System administers by appointment at its Express Care clinic in Covington.
Appointments should be made via the free MyChart app or by calling (985) 898-4001.
