With video doctor’s visits becoming the preferred method of receiving initial care amid the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, St. Tammany Health System is expanding its video visit program this weekend to accommodate Saturday-morning appointments.
Already available Mondays through Fridays, the service will be available this Saturday (March 28) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for both adults and pediatric patients.
Given the contagiousness of COVID-19, such long-distance visits have become in demand because they allow a patient to get an initial diagnosis while still practicing self-isolation, as recommended by doctors. Video visits are also efficient, lasting about 15 minutes on average.
Depending on demand, the program might be extended to future Saturdays.
Patients can call (985) 898-4001 to schedule a video visit. To participate, they should have the MyChart app on their smartphone and be an established MyChart user.
