With effects of Tropical Storm Arthur expected to be felt across the Northshore late this week, crews working on the St. Tammany Health System parking garage will temporarily dismantle the crane being used on that project beginning Thursday morning (June 18), weather permitting.
Covington Police will be on hand for traffic control between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. as crews remove the drilling equipment from the crane before backing it up against the hospital building along South Tyler Street. At that point, a truck will pull onto the site to load and remove the drill equipment.
Covington Police will also be on hand for traffic control between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday (June 19) as crews remove the crane itself from the site – again, weather permitting. This process will involve a brief shutdown of West 11th Avenue, lasting about 30 minutes, as the crane is loaded for removal from the site.
Should weather interfere with either of those planned operations, crews will work Saturday to complete it.
As of Wednesday afternoon, local impacts from Arthur were forecast to consist mostly of heavy rain across the region, as well as the potential for dangerous flash flooding. Please monitor local news outlets for the latest on Tropical Storm Arthur.
