Two Healthgrades National Awards
COVINGTON – The leading online resource to find a doctor or hospital, Healthgrades has once again recognized exceptional performance at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
Released annually, the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognize the elite top two percent of 4,500 evaluated hospitals for achieving both distinctions.
STPH is one of only 77 hospitals to earn both awards for excellent performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications, as well as providing a positive experience for patients during their hospital stay.

During the study period (2015-2017), Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient hospitals demonstrated excellent performance in safety provided for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective outcomes (risk-adjusted patient safety indicator rates) for 14 patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ).
In addition to being recognized as one of Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipients, STPH also out-performed peer hospitals in providing outstanding patient experience. Healthgrades evaluated performance by applying a scoring methodology to nine patient experience measures, using data collected from a 32-question experience survey from the hospital’s own patients. The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital, ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as provider communication and responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.

These latest accolades are in addition to an ‘A’ grade for patient safety from Leapfrog (7th consecutive), Women’s Choice 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience and CareChex top 100 for overall hospital care and overall medical care, plus a host of specialty awards for quality, safety and the patient experience.
