Adult Intensive Care

Critical care. Constant compassion.

At St. Tammany Health System’s Adult ICU, we’re always on the job.

At St. Tammany Health System’s Adult Intensive Care Unit, located on the second floor of our Covington hospital, we strive to keep the patient’s best interests in mind, which is why we’re dedicated to ensuring patient rest and privacy during your stay with us.

Realizing that being in intensive care is stressful for patients and their families, our trained staff will listen to concerns and answer questions as best as we can. One way we are able to do that is by having a team member available in the ICU waiting room. Before entering the ICU, you will check in with the team member.

Before you visit

The following guidelines have been put in place for the loved ones of our Adult ICU patients.

Visitor guidelines

Visitor guidelines

Please note: These guidelines, including visiting hours, may be changed as deemed medically necessary.

  • Limit ICU visitors to 2 at the patient’s bedside during regular visiting hours
  • To provide optimum patient care and assure confidentiality, visitation is closed during shift changes from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. During shift change times, nurses exchange information and discuss care for the patients.
  • Quiet time is observed from 10 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. daily to promote rest for our critical care patients. (Only 1 visitor is allowed at this time).
  • Children under 12 years old may not visit patients in the ICU.
  • Patients may ask that visitors be limited or prohibited at any time as needed.
  • Visitors are limited to family members and significant others. A family member or significant other must accompany all other visitors.
  • You may be asked to leave the ICU to allow for patient rest, care or procedures. A staff member will let you know when you may return to the unit.

Receiving updates

Receiving updates

Upon admission to the ICU, patients have the option to designate a representative to receive updates on a patient’s condition. This patient spokesperson will be able to call the patient’s nurse and, upon providing the patient's name and a previously established confidentiality PIN code and their name, retrieve information on the patient’s condition, which may then be passed on to other family members.

While away from STHS, you can reach the ICU at (985) 898-4546 for Rooms 2601-2616 or at (985) 898-4548 for Rooms 2617-2630. (Nurse Report Times are between 6:30 and 8 a.m. and 6:30 and 8 p.m. We kindly ask that families avoid calling during these times.)

We are here.
