With video doctor’s visits becoming the preferred method of receiving initial care amid the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, St. Tammany Health System is extending its video visit program to offer weekend appointments at least through the end of May.
Already available Mondays through Fridays before the outbreak, weekend hours – from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays – were initially added through April. This week, STHS announced they will continue for at least another month.
Given the contagiousness of COVID-19, such long-distance visits have become in demand because they allow a patient to get an initial diagnosis while still practicing self-isolation, as recommended by doctors. Video visits are also efficient, lasting about 15 minutes on average.
Patients can call (985) 898-4001 to schedule a video visit. To participate, they should have the MyChart app on their smartphone and be an established MyChart user.
Find detailed instructions on how to install and use MyChart at STPH.org/myvisit.
