Cover your ears and look up, Covington.
St. Tammany Health System’s main hospital campus in Covington has been added to the flight itinerary to be followed by pilots from Barksdale Air Force Base and the Louisiana Air National Guard, who will be flying over local hospitals in a show of gratitude and support for healthcare workers today (Friday, May 1), according to Covington Mayor Mark Johnson.
“These will not be mosquito planes,” Johnson wrote Thursday in an email to the community, adding “Gonna be low, gonna be loud.”
Colleagues can expect the Covington flyover, which Johnson said will be conducted by two F-15 Strike Eagle fighter jets originating from Naval Air Station Join Reserve Base in New Orleans, to occur between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m.
The display will also see flyovers at several south shore and Baton Rouge hospitals. Barksdale Air Force base will stream the event through its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TeamBarksdale.
“The men and women of Barksdale are honored to fly for the healthcare workers who continue to commit themselves during this unprecedented time in our nation,” said Col. Michael Miller, commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing. “They are true heroes and we look forward to demonstrating the support our 685,000 total force Airmen in the U.S. Air Force have for healthcare workers in our community and across the nation.”
