The men and women of St. Tammany Health System are making headlines again.
STHS CEO Joan Coffman is featured on the cover of the May 2020 edition of Sophisticated Woman magazine for a story about the hospital’s COVID-19 response. The headline: “When duty hits home.”
“I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork, dedication, innovation, resilience and heartfelt care our team has stepped up to provide,” Coffman says in the story. “Here, I’d like to shine the spotlight on those working so diligently on the front lines as they share their experiences fighting COVID 19.”
STHS Chief Operating Officer Sharon Toups, Chief Nursing Officer Kerry Milton and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Torcson are also interviewed for the story, which outlines a number of hospital initiatives implemented as part of its COVID response, including its drive-through testing operation; its mask disinfecting room; its Almost Home and Recharge rooms; and the work of the plant operations, lab, security and EVS teams, among others.
“I’m proud of how the team came together,” said Toups, who battled her own case of COVID-19, as did her 87-year-old mother. “ … I know firsthand the effort and extraordinary teamwork it takes to perform under these unprecedented circumstances. Nurses and doctors come to mind first as heroes, but they can’t function without the people working in maintenance, housekeeping, radiology, labs and other clinical and support areas.”
Sophisticated Woman magazine is available for free at Rouse’s Supermarkets and Barnes and Noble. The recent STHS story can also be found online at SophisticatedWoman.com.
May’s cover story marked the second consecutive month STHS was highlighted in the pages of Sophisticated Woman. In its April edition, St. Tammany Health System was named best hospital for 2019 in the magazine’s annual Northshore’s Best awards, which are voted on by its readers.
