EMS Week is right around the corner, but with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis curtailing in-person celebrations, the Louisiana Department of Health’s EMS Bureau is promoting a White Ribbon Campaign to honor the state’s emergency medical workers.
In what it is hoping will become an annual tradition, LDH is urging Louisiana residents to affix a white ribbon to their mailboxes, their front doors, in the windows of their cars or in any other highly visible location during EMS Week, which this year takes place from May 17 to 23, to signal support for EMS workers.
For those who don’t have materials on hand to make a white ribbon, the website ThinWhiteLineUSA.com is distributing a printable white ribbon template on its website.
The white ribbon observance is an outgrowth of the “thin white line” imagery, which represents emergency medical services in much the same way the “thin blue line” represents law enforcement officers and the “thin red line” denotes firefighters.
