How to stay cool -- and healthy -- in this weird summer
By STHS Communication Department
Summertime, and the living is … well, it’s pretty weird right now, if we’re being honest.
As we continue through a summer like no other, there are plenty of reasons to be distracted, concerned and unsettled. But the fact remains: It is still summer, and that’s always a good reason to take a deep breath (while socially distancing, naturally) and to try and catch whatever moments of fun and sun we can manage.
That was our guiding thought in pulling together the latest issue of “From the Heart,” a free monthly community newsletter from St. Tammany Health System in which we share with you, our patients and neighbors, the latest healthcare information, advice for healthy living, and good news from the halls of St. Tammany Parish’s oldest hospital.
Among the stories featured in this month’s edition:
- Can you catch COVID-19 from a swimming pool? St. Tammany infectious disease expert Dr. Mike Hill provides the answer.
- Registered dietician Julie Fortenberry offers tips on how you can avoid summer’s many dietary landmines and remain swimsuit-ready.
- The Parenting Center’s Alexis Dill offers advice on how parents can use recent tumult to teach their children valuable coping skills.
- St. Tammany Health System infection prevention expert Leslie Kelt tells you what you need to know to keep COVID-19 at bay when you hit the road.
- The city of Covington celebrated Juneteenth recently, and we were there to shine a spotlight on community health.
Find those stories and more in this month’s newsletter, which you can find at STPH.org/STHnewsletter. From that same page, you can also view past editions and sign up to have future editions sent for free directly to your email inbox.
Either way, please remember that we’re always here for you and your family’s healthcare needs, just like we’ve been since 1954 – and, in the words of St. Tammany Health System President and CEO Joan Coffman: “Stay safe, stay healthy and stay strong.”
