To help ease blood shortages amid the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Tammany Health System is teaming with The Blood Center for a blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The drive will take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front parking lot of the hospital, 1202 S. Tyler St., and across the street at the Medical Office Building.

All donors who successfully give blood will receive a free “Dat Blood Donor” face mask. Additionally, all donors’ blood will be screened for COVID-19 antibodies. The presence of COVID-19 antibodies indicates a previous COVID infection.

Walk-in donors are welcome, but to facilitate social distancing, it is recommended that prospective donors schedule an appointment before arriving. Appointments can be scheduled at The Blood Center website.
