Guild Donates $60,000 to STH Foundation

St. Tammany Hospital Guild Donates More Than $60,000 to STH Foundation

COVINGTON – The St. Tammany Hospital Guild presented a check for $65,120.63 to St. Tammany Hospital Foundation in January as their annual donation in 2019.

“This donation represents an investment by the St. Tammany Hospital Volunteer Guild in projects to meet the needs of our patients,” said Ken Lane, guild president. “It is one way in which the guild is able to give back to the St. Tammany Parish Hospital community and continue making a difference for those we serve.”

Throughout the year the guild not only volunteers their time, but raises funds through sales generated from the hospital gift shop, bake sales, jewelry sales and linen sales. The proceeds are used for bi-annual educational scholarships for employees and an annual donation to the foundation. The guild has donated more than $330,000 since 2003 for projects and improvements throughout St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

The more than $60,000 donated from 2018 will be used for multiple projects around the hospital including a new telestroke cart, iPads for the pediatric unit/PICU, rocking chairs for the New Family Center and an infant loss memory kit. The largest portion of the donation, more than $51,000, will be used for opioid interventions. STPH’s multi-disciplinary Opioid Stewardship Committee has received national recognition for their opioid interventions and work to combat the opioid crisis the country is facing. The funds will be used to further invest in non-opioid modalities and staff training.

“What the guild and gift shop staff do is so much more than just selling items to customers,” said Nicole Suhre, St. Tammany Hospital Foundation executive director. “They are turning profits into philanthropy, enhancing the hospital with every dollar they make and, in turn, give back. It’s a truly remarkable thing."

Anyone interested in volunteering for the hospital, Parenting Center or hospice should contact Volunteer Coordinator Shirley Primes at 985-898-4008 or sprimes@stph.org.
