COVINGTON – St. Tammany Hospital Foundation has issued a call for entries for the next Rotating Gallery Series, part of its award-winning Healing Arts Initiative.

The show marks the first Rotating Gallery exhibition since the onset of COVID-19 restrictions in spring 2020.

All community artists, including St. Tammany Health System colleagues, are encouraged to apply.

“We could not be more thrilled to bring back art exhibits to our main campus,” foundation Executive Director Nicole Suhre said. “It’s been too long since new work from our talented artist community has been showcased in our halls. The Healing Arts Committee is excited not only for our patients, visitors and colleagues to experience the beauty of the hanging art, but also for the community at large, which is invited to visit these works anytime for the duration of the exhibition.”

Applications are being accepted through Aug. 4, and the 12-week exhibit will take place from Sept. 18 to Dec. 8 at St. Tammany Health System’s flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

All submitted artwork should create a peaceful, restorative and healing atmosphere for the hospital’s patients, visitors and staff. Only two-dimensional artwork or wall-hung three-dimensional artwork will be accepted.

All exhibited pieces will be reviewed and selected by an anonymous jury.

Visit STHFoundation.org/Healing Arts or call (985) 898-4110 for full guidelines as well as an online application form.

St. Tammany Hospital’s Healing Arts Initiative was started in 2004 with donations made by St. Tammany Parish Hospital employees for the purchase of a player piano for the hospital lobby, aquariums for the hospital’s Pediatric Unit and Cordes Outpatient Pavilion, “Healing Ceiling tiles” in MRI and CT rooms, as well as a restful south Louisiana landscape mural in the hospital’s Radiology Department.

Since then, the initiative has grown to encompass a wide-ranging collection of works created by local visual artists – from paintings to sculptures to photographs and more – that are on display at St. Tammany Health System facilities across western St. Tammany Parish, as well as the inclusion of architectural elements and music therapy that all work together to create a healing environment.

In November, the Healing Arts Initiative was named the 2022 recipient of the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs’ President’s Award.
