STPH BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ANNOUNCES NEW CEO
COVINGTON – St. Tammany Parish Hospital Service District No. 1 Board of Commissioners announced today Joan M. Coffman, FACHE, as the new president and chief executive officer for the west St. Tammany Parish community hospital.
“We are excited to attract such an accomplished and proven hospital leader as Ms. Coffman,” said John Evans, board chairman. “Our search committee included local community physician leaders, board members and our partner Ochsner Health System. Among the seven of us, we find Joan to be an accomplished hospital executive and an excellent choice to lead our hospital into its next phase of growth to serve our population of patients and families.”
Coffman, a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), most recently served as president and CEO of HSHS St. Mary’s in Decatur, Ill., a campus of Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), a multi-facility healthcare system serving Illinois and Wisconsin since 1875 as the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis.
Committee members cited Coffman’s demonstrated track record improving quality, safety, patient experience and overall operating performance as factors in their decision, as well as her demonstrated passion for improving overall health and quality of life in her community while providing exceptional healthcare value in the hospitals she has led.
Originally from New Orleans, Coffman worked with Tenet Healthcare Corp. as Assistant Administrator of Lindy Boggs Medical Center until 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Louisiana Clinic, a multi-specialty physician clinic in New Orleans. Coffman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Francis and master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Orleans.
Not dissimilar to STPH, HSHS St. Mary’s is a 244-bed hospital that offers a broad spectrum of comprehensive health services, including the latest diagnostic equipment, interventional cardiology, surgical and medical intervention, emergency medical care, outpatient radiation therapy, pain management, behavioral health and sleep center.
Coffman will start at STPH on June 30.
