Congratulations 1Q Ambassadors

STPH RECOGNIZES 1Q AMBASSADORS

St. Tammany Parish Hospital recognizes several staff members each quarter who consistently display excellence in customer service and exemplify the hospital's CARES standards all employees follow to provide quality customer service:
  • Create a positive first impression
  • Anticipate customer needs
  • Respect patients, staff and others
  • Efficiently deliver service
  • Safety, first and foremost
Ambassadors are selected based on their ability to demonstrate the characteristics set forth in the CARES standards, and any staff member, physician or volunteer is eligible to be nominated as an ambassador. The first quarter 2015 Ambassadors are:

CATHERINE JAMES, FOOD SERVICES

Patients describe Catherine as “outstanding,” “going above and beyond” and “she shows she loves her job.” She greets internal staff, patients and family members with a genuine smile and enthusiasm at all times.

She introduces herself to every new patient assigned to her and discusses their menu, food preferences and the hospital’s room service process. She ensures all of her patients make a selection in a timely manner. If not, she visits them and helps in any way she can.

When a patient doesn’t eat their meal, she offers other options to ensure they meet their nutritional needs. She works with family members to ensure they are satisfied with the food service experience.

Catherine has embraced our new computer system, Computrition, by focusing on how it will improve our service to patients and offering suggestions to improve the process. She always makes suggestions and tastes menus items so she can describe the flavor to patients.

BERT LINDSEY, REHAB SERVICES

Bert is very charismatic when he enters a patient’s room. He immediately puts them at ease with his charm and rapport. He’s never met a stranger.

Bert is very respectful of staff and follows up if another staff member is taking care of his treatment. He never says “no” and serves as a great role model for all.

He was instrumental in getting the hospital to purchase patient lifts and then training staff on the correct procedures for lifting patients out of their bed.

He is always brainstorming performance improvement ideas for the department. As a supervisor, he has increased productivity and improved communication among the department, physicians and other departments.

Bert has been very involved in getting the most appropriate equipment for patients following surgery and has spent many hours with vendors to get the best product at the best price.

KAREN SUPAN, PARENTING CENTER

When Karen speaks of STPH and the Parenting Center, she does so with pride. She promotes the Parenting Center and hospital by always having newsletters and calendars to distribute, including handing them out during her personal time.

She participates in many process improvement initiatives, notably working to implement online payment for Monster Mash tickets, as well as online registration for Parenting Center classes.

Karen regularly volunteers for after-hours events including, but not limited to, Heart of Fashion, Monster Mash Volunteer Appreciation Party, health fairs and evening classes.

Karen’s wardrobe is always cheerful and embodies the spirit of the seasons, such as Halloween shirts in October, Christmas in December and flowers in the spring.

She has been instrumental in “training” five Parenting Center directors during her 24 years with the program. When Karen is complimented, she is quick to say she would not have been able to do it without her great team.

TINA ZELLNER, LABORATORY

Tina is very outgoing, friendly and always comes to work with a positive attitude. She is a good mentor and always encourages new employees. Her interactions with patients and coworkers put a smile on the face of everyone she greets.

Tina approaches every task with a teamwork mentality, which is why the department’s atmosphere is more positive when Tina is around. Her patients love her and co-workers are thrilled when she’s on the schedule.

She gets to work as soon as she arrives and is the first one on the floor to collect specimens. Before she leaves for the evening, she helps the med techs by starting centrifuge on samples.

She takes the initiative to perform non-patient tasks such as cleaning carts, the work area and checking expiration dates on tubes.

Coworkers say she brings a great work ethic and an infectious, sincere positive approach to her job.
