STHS has to suspend monoclonal antibody infusions for COVID patients

Effective immediately, and until further notice, St. Tammany Health System can no longer accept new appointments for monoclonal antibody infusion therapy for COVID-positive patients.

This is due to the depletion of current supplies; it is unclear when they will be replenished by the state.

In the meantime, with the highly transmissible omicron variant driving a spike in new cases locally – and with holiday gatherings expected to lead to further infections – health system experts advise the following preventative steps:

  • Get vaccinated as soon as possible, if not already. If already fully vaccinated, get a booster.
  • Wear face coverings over your nose and mouth whenever in public or around people outside your immediate household bubble.
  • Avoid indoor gatherings. If you plan on a family gathering for the year-end holidays, take advantage of the mild weather forecast for Christmas by gathering outside.
  • Practice social distancing. In all cases, remain at least six feet from those outside your household bubble.
  • Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds using soap and water, especially after you have been in a public place, or after using the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are unavailable, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
  • Be vigilant. While vaccines are effective in reducing risk of infection, remember they are not 100% effective in stopping transmission, particularly of the omicron variant. That being the case, vigilance is key in protecting you and your family.

Patients experiencing mild COVID-19 symptoms should contact their primary care provider or STHS’s Express Care walk-in clinic in Covington for treatment, leaving local emergency rooms for those in need of emergency care.
