The date was March 25, 1955, and a group of civic-minded Northshore residents – many of whom had spent years working to establish the then-just-completed St. Tammany Parish Hospital – gathered for meeting at the Southern Hotel in Covington.
Their chief goal: to formally unite as a volunteer group in support of the healing work being done at the fledgling hospital.
It was at that meeting that the St. Tammany Hospital Guild was born – and it’s still going, with the guild’s 90-plus members celebrating 70 years of service to the community in 2025.
So what keeps them going? What’s their “why”? To learn a little more about the guild, we sat down with some of its members to discuss their shared spirit of generosity in this latest episode of “Northshore Healthbeat,” the official podcast of St. Tammany Health System.
