COVINGTON – For the 17th consecutive grading period, St. Tammany Health System’s flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital has earned an “A” grade for patient safety for spring 2024 from the Leapfrog Group, an independent healthcare watchdog organization.
No other Louisiana health system has received as many consecutive A’s.
“Everyone who works at St. Tammany Health System should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank St. Tammany Health System, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
Introduced in 2012, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades assign letter grades of A, B, C, D and F twice a year to hospitals across the country. Those grades are based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms.
Developed under the guidance of a national panel of experts, the Leapfrog letter grade program uses up to 22 evidence-based measures of patient safety to assign grades to more than 3,000 U.S. acute-care hospitals.
The Leapfrog grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
