PLAN AHEAD: WHAT'S HAPPENING AT STPH IN APRIL

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT

STPH certified lactation consultant answers questions related to breastfeeding your baby from noon to 1 p.m. April 2 at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center, 1505 N. Florida St., Suite B, Covington. Expectant moms are also encouraged to attend this free program as well as new mothers – with their baby! NEW FAMILY CENTER TOURS

Expecting families are invited to tour the St. Tammany Parish Hospital New Family Center, 1202 S. Tyler St., Covington from 10 a.m. to noon April 4 and 18. Meet in the third floor lobby to learn all about the private birthing suites, rooming in, skin-to-skin program and more. Free. For more information, call 985-898-4436.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP
A support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child, from infant to adult, will meet at 7 p.m. April 6 and 20 at the St. Tammany Hospital Hospice office, 725 W. 11th Ave., Covington. For more information, contact Ada Marion LCSW at 985-871-5974 or amarion@stph.org.

BABYSITTING CLASSES

The St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center will hold its Safe Sitting Babysitting Training for boys and girls 11 and older from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6-7 at the Parenting Center, 1505 N. Florida St., Suite B, Covington. This two-day program offers CPR, choking rescue, injury management, safety for the sitter, babysitting as a business, child care basics and more. BREAST CANCER SUPPORT

A breast cancer survivor support group will meet from 7-8 p.m. April 7 at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, 1203 S. Tyler St., Covington. This free support group is open to anyone receiving treatment or who has completed treatment for breast cancer. For more information, contact jfreudenberger@marybird.com or 985-276-6832.

NURTURING SKILLS FOR FAMILIES
This 16-week program for parents and their children (birth to 12 year olds) is an internationally recognized program that enhances self-worth, improves communication, helps parents understand how important empathy is in parenting and imparts positive discipline and empowerment. The class runs from 6-8 p.m. April 9-July 30. Space is limited, and there are a limited number of scholarships available. The cost is $40.

CUDDLE BUDDIES

The monthly group Cuddle Buddies, which meets from 10:30-11 a.m. April 9, 16 and 23, is a learning and support opportunity for parents and a social playtime for babies at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center, 1505 N. Florida St., Suite B, Covington. Bring a friend and join us for songs, stories and playtime. Class size is limited. The cost is $6 for members and $12 for nonmembers. PLAY AND LEARN

Parents and their children, 16 months to 4 years, are invited to play and learn together through music and movement, arts and crafts, and storytime at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center, 1505 N. Florida St., Suite B, Covington. Classes will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. April 14, 21 and 28 (Theme: Spring has Sprung). Class size is limited to 12 parent/child couples. CANCER SUPPORT

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital will host a cancer connection support group from 7-9 p.m. April 14 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, 1203 S. Tyler St., Covington. Family members and friends challenged by cancer diagnosis are invited to share experiences and quality of life after a cancer diagnosis. BALLET

Do you have an aspiring dancer in your family? If so, then join Kristen Zornman from 19:15-10 a.m. April 15, 22 and 29 for a 3-week ballet series for young ballerinas at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center, 1505 N. 1, 2, 3, 4 PARENTS
Learn positive discipline skills and the social/behavioral stages as children progress through their first four years from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18 during 1, 2, 3, 4 Parents at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center, 1505 N. Florida St., Suite B, Covington. The cost is $35 for nonmembers and includes the book, “Parenting Your 1-4-year-old.” For more information, contact ksupan@stph.org or 985-898-4435.

CO-PARENTING CLASSES

This two-part series for divorcing parents who want to keep their children from becoming children in the middle will be held from 6-8 p.m. April 20 and 27. It will focus on methods and communication skills that help keep children out of the divorcing parents’ issues. There’s also a children’s version for ages 6-12 years, held at the same times, to provide children help with issues they may confront as their parents go through a divorce. SUN SAFETY, EMERGENCY SMART
Join the Parenting Center and St. Tammany Parish Communication District from 4:30-5:15 p.m. April 20 as the St. Tammany Parish School Board’s 21st Century Community Learning Program at Lyon Elementary, 1615 N. TAI CHI AND MEDITATION
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital will offer free Tai Chi classes from 9-10 a.m. and free meditation classes from 10-11 a.m. every Thursday at the Paul D. Cordes Outpatient Pavilion, 16300 Highway 1085, Covington. The classes, led by yoga and Tai Chi instructor Erlinda R. Nye and certified medication instructor Ellen LaRocca LMT CPSM, are free and open to the public.

NEW BABY SUPPORT GROUP
St. Tammany Parish Hospital Parenting Center holds its new baby support group from 11:15 a.m. to noon every Thursday at 1505 N. Florida St., Suite B, Covington. Join other mothers and their little ones (birth to seven months old) to discuss child development and parenting tips with other parents as well as professionals. Free.
