STPH Named Top General Hospital by Leapfrog

STPH Earns National Award for Top General Hospital

One of Only Two Top General Hospitals in Louisiana

COVINGTON – Today the Leapfrog Group will recognize St. Tammany Parish Hospital as a Top General Hospital, one of only 45 nationwide and two in Louisiana. Leapfrog, an independent hospital watchdog organization focused on patient safety, calls the award “one of the most competitive honors American hospitals earn,” highlighting St. Tammany Parish Hospital’s nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality.

“To be one of only two hospitals in our state to earn this distinction is testament to the exceptional employees at St. Tammany Parish Hospital,” said Patti Ellish, STPH CEO and president. “And we are excited to see that the other Louisiana hospital earning this distinction is our partner Ochsner.”

Ochsner Medical Center-Baton Rouge is a fellow Top General Hospital and Ochsner Baptist Medical Center is a Top Teaching Hospital, according to Leapfrog (Leapfroggroup.org/Ratings-Reports/Top-Hospitals).

St. Tammany Parish Hospital earned an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2017, the fourth time STPH has earned the “A” rating. This honor caps off a year in which STPH has been recognized by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), US News and World Report, Healthgrades, Women’s Choice, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and the Joint Commission for exceptional quality, safety or patient experience.

The Leapfrog Group considers performance across many areas of hospital care in establishing the qualifications for the Top General Hospital Award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

“We are proud to recognize St. Tammany Parish Hospital as a 2017 Leapfrog Top Hospital. This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and the local community. The entire staff and board deserve praise for putting quality first and achieving results,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The selection of Top Hospitals 2017 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2017 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
