STPH Recognizes 3Q Ambassadors

STPH RECOGNIZES 3Q AMBASSADORS

St. Tammany Parish Hospital recognizes several staff members each quarter who consistently display excellence in customer service and exemplify the hospital's CARES standards all employees follow to provide quality customer service;
  • Create a positive first impression
  • Anticipate customer needs
  • Respect patients, staff and others
  • Efficiently deliver service
  • Safety, first and foremost
Ambassadors are selected based on their ability to demonstrate the characteristics set forth in the CARES standards, and any staff member, physician or volunteer is eligible to be nominated as an ambassador. The third quarter 2014 Ambassadors include:

HELEN BRISTER RN, AMBULATORY CARE

Helen always greets patients, staff and physicians with a smile and she often calls the person by name. She’s known for displaying professionalism on the phone and in person while making everyone feel comfortable and at ease.

Her co-workers say she’s prepared on a daily basis by showing concern for their welfare, understands and anticipates the idiosyncrasies of the surgeons and meets the needs of each one. It’s common for Helen to call in from home to check and make sure everything is running well for the unit.

Helen remains calm in all circumstances, which most likely stems from her ability to troubleshoot situations before they even become a concern. However, her coworkers often don’t realize the amount of work or situations she deals with every day because she never complains.

GRAY NAPIER MD, HOSPITAL MEDICINE

Dr. Napier makes frequent rounds and is highly visible, which the night shift appreciates. He also is known for returning pages quickly and rarely needs to be paged twice. Staff rarely have to call Dr. Napier about lab or X-ray results, as he looks them up on Soarian himself and calls orders in, if needed.

Coworkers say Dr. Napier helps staff in any way possible, whether it’s something as simple as pulling a patient up in bed or performing chest compressions in an emergency. They also say he always is respectful and willing to listen to ideas on treatment for patients.

When speaking to patients and family members, he is concise and uses language the general public can understand. He spends as much time as needed with patients and families during the admit process. In return, they recognize he is their advocate and that he truly cares for them.

SHAYNA HOGAN RN, 3-SOUTH

Shayna’s coworkers say she always has a beautiful smile and is a beautiful person inside. She never meets a stranger and treats everyone equally. Her respect for her patients, coworkers and guests is considered exemplary.

Safety is always first and foremost when she’s taking care of patients, which is why many who work with her consider her a role model. It’s very common for 3-South to receive positive patient comment cards that specifically mention Shayna’s kindness.

She has stayed late many days to help the day shift get started because she knows they will be busy, and she never hesitates to volunteer for extra shifts when needed and does so with a smile; coworkers say she actually thanks them for the opportunity to help!

TARA MILLER RN, COMMUNITY WELLNESS CENTER

Tara has a smile and laugh that is infectious. She always greets patients in a way that makes them feel at home. She always uses “yes ma’am, no ma’am and thank you,” and does not judge anyone or any situation.

She also always seems to be one step ahead of the patient’s needs, handling special issues beautifully. If there is a concern, the patient is not aware of it, as Tara quickly resolves it.
Colleagues say she has a knack for getting the Community Wellness Center back on track after a sudden surge of patients and a consistently provides outstanding customer service.

Tara always is on top of any new safety guidelines and ensures that her coworkers are aware of any changes. When she’s not sure about something, she will take the time to research program guidelines.

TIFFANY NEIDER RN, STPN COVINGTON

Tiffany is known for her uncanny ability to remember patients’ names and their specifics, which allows her to treat every patient with dignity and respect, as someone special and as someone who needs her undivided care and attention.

Coworkers consider her the most positive, patient advocate - and the most safety conscious. She is very thorough before administering injectable medications and frequently calls patients to follow up on them after an office visit.

Tiffany does not think twice about questioning something if it does not seem right, which is why she’s effective in helping determine what is necessary for the patient to meet their medical needs.
Above all else, she always uses her wealth of knowledge and years at the hospital to help patients navigate the maze of healthcare.
