STPH Ranked Among Nation’s Best Hospitals

U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT RANKS STPH
 AMONG NATION’S BEST HOSPITALS

COVINGTON – St. Tammany Parish Hospital is one of only two of the nearly 40 hospitals in the New Orleans metro area to land on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals list for 2014-15. The listing reveals STPH to be second in the region and fourth in the state for quality and safety.

It was the only hospital on the Northshore to make either list.

Meanwhile, nephrology specialty at STPH was recognized as high-performing.

“We are honored to achieve this recognition from US News and World Report,” said STPH President and CEO Patti Ellish. “It’s truly a testament to the people who make us what we are. We believe the superior quality and safety our patients experience every day stem directly from our employees’ collective commitment to treat our patients like family.”

U.S. News’ Best Hospitals rankings are based on mortality rates for patients who represent especially challenging cases, on patient safety and on other measures of performance that can be assessed using hard data in addition to an annual reputational survey of physicians, who are asked to name hospitals they consider the best in their specialty for difficult cases.

Patient safety metrics now account for 10 percent of each hospital’s overall score, in most specialties – twice as much as in past years. The role of hospital reputation, as determined through a national survey of medical specialists, diminished by 5 percentage points. The research organization RTI International, in Research Triangle Park, N.C., conducted the physician survey and produced the Best Hospitals methodology and national rankings under contract with U.S. News.
