Events to Highlight Heart Month


STPH PHYSICIANS TO LEAD HEART MONTH EVENTS

COVINGTON - With February being American Heart Month, St. Tammany Hospital is hosting several events to focus on how to maintain a healthy heart.

LUNCH AND LEARN: WOMEN'S HEART HEALTH
Dr. Bekir Melek, cardiologist with Covington Cardiovascular Care, will hold a Lunch and Learn on Women’s Heart Health at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 3 at the West St. Tammany YMCA, 71256 Francis Road, Covington. The event is free and refreshments will be provided. For more info or to register, call 985-898-3780.

CARDIAC EDUCATION
Presented by Michael Sanchez RN and Joanna Wilbanks, STPH Dietician, this free class will be held at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 13 at the Paul D. Cordes Outpatient Pavilion. The program consists of three free classes: 8:30-9 a.m., Introduction to Cardiac Anatomy; 9-10 a.m., Nutrition for a Healthy Life; 10-10:30 a.m., Cardiac Risk Factors.

The second half of the class, to be held Feb. 27, will include the following topics: 8:30-9 a.m., Introduction to Cardiac Emergencies; 9-10 a.m., Pharmacology; 10-10:30 a.m., Benefits of Exercise Stress Management. For more information, please call 985-898-3780.

CARDIAC REHAB CLASS REUNION
STPH will host a Cardiac Rehab Class Reunion from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at the West St. Tammany YMCA, 71256 Francis Road, Covington. Come visit with past fellow classmates for a pot-luck luncheon - and feel free to bring a guest. For more info or to register (and confirm your dish), call 985-898-3780.

Dr. Sohail Khan, cardiologist with Covington Cardiovascular Care, will hold a Lunch and Learn on Peripheral Vascular Disease at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 24 at the West St. Tammany YMCA, 71256 Francis Road, Covington.
