Women’s Pavilion Designated an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Covington — The Women’s Pavilion of St. Tammany Parish Hospital has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field,have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

“Our hospital and Women’s Pavilion work hard to provide the highest quality of care possible,” said Sharon Toups, Chief Operating Officer at STPH. “This designation shows the community that we meet those goals and continue to strive for excellence.”

"This designation indicates we have met very stringent requirements and demonstrates our commitment to elevating the quality of breast care available to our community," said Melonie Lagalante, Director of Outpatient Services. "We are the only facility on the Northshore with this designation and one of only a few throughout the state of Louisiana."
