St. Tammany Health System’s Summer Collegiate Shadowing Program is now accepting applications for summer 2023. The application deadline is April 17.

Program description
This program provides an opportunity for college students to observe or shadow a healthcare employee in order to develop a broader understanding of their intended field of study. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the Shadowing program.
Purpose
The purpose of the Collegiate Shadowing Program is to provide the best learning opportunity for the individual seeking a medical/healthcare career path. The Shadowing Program provides:
- Opportunities to observe healthcare in practice.
- Exposure to various healthcare career options.
- Information about the requirements to enter various healthcare careers.
- Positive role models.
The Shadowing Program is open to persons who are actively enrolling in a four-year healthcare degree program that requires hours of observation as a part of the application process. Observation areas include: respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, etc. The participants must be committed to volunteering a minimum of 20 hours.

Important dates
- Orientation to the hospital and the program is scheduled for Monday, May 22, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Madisonville Room at St. Tammany Health System’s flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. Orientation includes policies and procedures of the hospital, an explanation of the Program, schedule, badge, N95 fit testing, and a tour of the facility. Participants must wear a mask while on site.
- The program runs from May 23, 2023, to June 23, 2023.
- All applications are due by Monday, April 17, 2023. Applicants will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
