In one of the most recent signs that St. Tammany Health System’s new patient tower is nearing completion, the STHS Division of Nursing’s time capsule was installed on Monday (March 8) in the new building.
The capsule, which is actually a sealed, stainless steel box measuring approximately 2 feet by 1.5 feet, contains a collection of nursing memorabilia from 2020, including an N95 mask, photos of STHS nurses at work, a 2020 nursing pay scale and special messages to nurses of the future. It isn’t to be opened for 50 years.
On the front of the box is an engraved message reading: “We the membership of Nursing Shared Governance dedicate this time capsule to our future nurses. As a commemoration, this capsule represents nursing’s dedication and commitment to excellence. This capsule, established December 2020, is to be opened in the year 2070.”
When the new wing goes online this spring, the capsule will be prominently displayed in the building’s first-floor elevator lobby.
