CLECO is scheduled to replace a power transformer at St. Tammany Health System’s main hospital campus this weekend, requiring the closure of 8th Avenue in Covington from 10 p.m. Friday (July 17) to noon Saturday.
Power to the hospital’s neighbors is not expected to be interrupted, according to CLECO.
The hospital will remain fully operational for the duration of the work.
The street closure is necessary so CLECO can set up equipment and run new electrical lines from 8th Avenue to the new transformer, which will be located on hospital property.
The work is being conducted to handle the increased electrical load required by the new patient tower under construction at STHS.
St. Tammany Health System is in the final months of construction on a four-story, 160,000-square-foot patient tower that will add 70 private patient rooms to the hospital. Construction is on track to be completed in December.
