St. Tammany Health System Trauma Services Manager Bethany Monistere, RN, has been named one of the Great 100 Nurses of Louisiana for 2022.

Bethany was chosen for the honor by a confidential panel of judges tasked with reviewing hundreds of nominations submitted.

In addition to noting her willingness to help St. Tammany Health System and its patients in any way – particularly with regard to trauma, emergency management and quality – Bethany was singled out for her unflagging leadership of the health system’s Stop the Bleed program.

That community outreach program, part of the nationwide Stop the Bleed initiative, regularly offers free hourlong classes aimed at teaching members of the public how to stabilize a person suffering a traumatic injury until first responders arrive.

In 2021, Bethany and her team brought Stop the Bleed training to all 56 public schools in St. Tammany Parish, as well as a handful of non-classroom sites. There, they trained 302 faculty and staff members on how to pack a wound, apply a tourniquet and perform other life-saving techniques.

So far in 2022, the health system’s Stop the Bleed program has taught more than 530 additional people.

Thirty-three years ago, the Great 100 Nurses Foundation was started in New Orleans to recognize exceptional registered nurses for their concern of humanity, their significant contribution to the profession of nursing and the mentoring of others.

It has since expanded and has over the years honored thousands of nurses across Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas and Arkansas.

Bethany and other Great 100 Nurses for 2022 were honored in an event held earlier this month at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
