Emergency Department Ribbon Cutting and Open House

STPH Hosts Ribbon Cutting on New Phase of Emergency Department

COVINGTON – STPH held a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday, March 3, for the newest phase of the Emergency Department, part of its $21 million multiphase expansion project.

This phase of the Emergency Department includes a new waiting area, walk-in entrance and pediatric waiting and treatment areas. It will also include a new “results pending” area for patients who have received emergency care and are awaiting physicians’ orders, prescriptions or non-emergency test results. This ensures that beds are available sooner for other patients in need. When completed, the Emergency Department will have a total of 30 beds, 10 more than prior to the project. It will include specialized care settings to accommodate, pediatric, geriatric and mental health emergencies.

“The opening of this phase marks a major milestone in our expansion project,” Patti Ellish, President and CEO of St. TammanyParish Hospital. “We are excited to debut this beautiful new space for our patients who need immediate assistance and to introduce specialized infrastructure that responds to the needs of patients in our service district.”

The $21 million expansion of inpatient and emergency services started in late 2013 to reflect the growing needs of families on the Northshore. A major phase of the project, the 3 North expansion, opened April 2015. The final phases of construction will occur in interior portions of the new emergency department footprint and is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2016.
