STHS Medical Staff, guild award 7 fall 2021 scholarships

COVINGTON, La. – Seven St. Tammany Health System employees received a total of $11,500 in scholarships this month from the St. Tammany Hospital Guild and the Health System’s Medical Staff Committee.

The guild, an all-volunteer organization that raises money for the hospital through various means – including operation of the hospital’s gift shop – awarded five 2021 spring scholarships to health system employees pursing education to further their medical careers. Each of the Guild scholarships are worth $1,500.

The five recipients are:

  • Danielle Edwards, a Utilization Management manager and an 11-year member of the St. Tammany Health System team.
  • Angela Gottschalk, a registered nurse working in Utilization Management and a member of the STHS team since January 2017.
  • Grace Taffaro, a pharmacy tech who joined STHS in 2020.
  • Heather Toohey, a licensed practical nurse working in the New Family Center and an STHS team member since 2020.
  • Sarah Wellmeyer, a licensed practical nurse working in Emergency Care Services who has been with STHS since 2018.

Additionally, the Medical Staff Committee awarded its spring 2021 Nursing Scholarships, worth $2,000 each, to:

  • Martha Everett, a licensed practical nurse working in Cardiology Medicine and a colleague at STHS since 2016.
  • Stephanie Fuller, a licensed practical nurse working in the Intensive Care Unit and a 15-year veteran of St. Tammany Health System.
