With COVID-19 surging across the Northshore and throughout Louisiana, St. Tammany Hospital Foundation has announced the rescheduling of its annual fundraising gala.

THE Gala 2021, themed “Step Into Your Dancing Shoes,” will now be held on Thursday, Nov. 4. All previously purchased tickets will be honored on the new date.

In a message sent out Monday (July 26) to the event’s sponsors, foundation leadership wrote:

It is the responsibility of a healthcare system like ours to be a leader in promoting safety and what is right for the health of our community. With the recent spike in COVID cases in our community and the significant increase in hospitalizations, we know a gathering of this size has the potential to aid in the spread of the virus, putting further strain on the hospital and its workers and most importantly, potentially putting the health and wellbeing of our guests at risk.

We know you are disappointed, and we are too. We appreciate your commitment to making an impact on cancer care in our community and your generous support of St. Tammany Cancer Center, a campus of Ochsner Medical Center. Our commitment to you is to host an amazing – and safe – party with a purpose once the time is right.

So, keep your dancing shoes nearby and practice your moves. THE Gala: Step into your Dancing Shoes isn’t going anywhere. On behalf of St. Tammany Hospital Foundation, the cancer center, and its partners, we again thank you for your commitment, your patience, and your understanding. We look forward to seeing you this fall at the most fantastic party in town!

COVID inpatient numbers at St. Tammany Health System’s Covington hospital have increased nearly tenfold in the past three weeks, from six on July 6 to a total of 52 on Monday morning (July 26).

Experts attribute the explosion in local COIVID infections to a combination of persistently low vaccination rates and the arrival of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the COVID virus in our community.

St. Tammany Health System continues to administer COVID-19 vaccines by appointment at its Express Care clinic in Covington. Appointments should be made via the free MyChart app or by calling (985) 898-4001.
