A widespread tech outage that has grounded flights and knocked businesses offline in an array of sectors around the globe has not directly impacted St. Tammany Health System, although health system leadership said they were monitoring the situation Friday morning.
Patient care has not been impacted in any way at any of the health system’s facilities, including at its flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
According to media reports, the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the issue behind Friday’s outage – which is being called the largest IT outage in history – is not believed to be a security-related incident or cyberattack.
Rather, CrowdStrike said the disruptions was the result of a faulty update it deployed to computers running Microsoft Windows. A fix was on the way, it said, although it was unclear how long it would take for things to return to normal.
