Local Students Gain Valuable Experience as STPH Student Volunteers

COVINGTON – Local youth with an interest in hospital careers invest valuable summer hours as part of the 2015
St. Tammany Parish Hospital Student Volunteer Program.

“We’re excited to have 20 bright young people in the program this year,” STPH Volunteer Coordinator Shirley Primes said.

Students age 15-20 serve at least eight hours per week June 8 to July 24. Each volunteer selects half-day shifts twice a week or full-day shifts once a week in departments ranging from clinical to office settings, including:

  • Ambulatory Care
  • Cardiac Rehab
  • Covington Surgery Center
  • Emergency Department
  • Infection Prevention/Employee Health
  • Endoscopy
  • Inpatient Rehab
  • Lab
  • Mary Bird
  • New Family Center
  • Outpatient Rehab
  • Phlebotomy
  • Pulmonary Rehab
  • Transport

“The Student Volunteer program is a great opportunity for area youth to give back to the community while at the same time explore their own potential career path,” Primes said.
