Dr. Marissa Moore, a family medicine practitioner, has joined the St. Tammany Health System family as a member of its St. Tammany Physicians Network primary care clinic in Mandeville.

A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Moore earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Jackson, Tennessee.

As a family physician, she said she puts an emphasis on forging meaningful relationships with her patients and truly becoming their advocate throughout their healthcare journey.

“I had a physician who was not so nice to me when I was younger, and it just made an impact,” she said. “I think that listening to your patients and taking into consideration what they feel and what they want is very important – almost as important as the medicine itself.

“We want them to be taken care of and get the best possible care,” she continued, “but we also want them to have a say. The care always goes better that way.”

When searching for a place to make her professional home, Dr. Moore said she was struck by the patient-first philosophy at St. Tammany Health System. Additionally, she found the health system – and the Northshore as a whole – filled with friendly, welcoming personalities.

“I loved the people when I came here,” she said. “I felt like it was going to be the best fit. Coming out of residency, I thought it would offer a good support system where I could get quality advice if I needed it.”

When away from work, Dr. Moore and her husband – who is a pediatric cardiology fellow at Children’s Hospital New Orleans – have been busy familiarizing themselves with South Louisiana  culture, from spending time in the French Quarter to sampling the flavors available at local festivals including the Beignet Festival and Fried Chicken Festival.

“The food here is so good,” she said. “Maybe too good.”

At the STPN-Mandeville clinic, Dr. Moore joins a growing practice that includes Drs. Charles Baier, Gabrielle Givens, Nathalie Kerkow, Richard Long, Vernon Palmisano, Maria Roberts and Christine Thurston, as well as Nurse Practitioner Kelsey St. Arnaud.
