STPH Earns Multiple Patient Safety Awards in 2017

St. Tammany Parish Hospital earned national recognition for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, Healthgrades and Women’s Choice so far this year, in addition to recognition for quality and patient experience.

“Safety first and foremost is central to our core standards at St. Tammany Parish Hospital,” said Patti Ellish, president/CEO. “We are proud to be recognized nationally for safety because it affirms our commitment to create the highest quality, safest experience for our patients.”

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system, released new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide.  St. Tammany Parish Hospital was one of 823 hospitals to receive an A for its commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents that can harm patients.

Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™ recognized STPH for excellent performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stay. Awarded hospitals are in the top 10 percent in the nation for patient safety. Patient safety measures how well a hospital prevents injuries, infections and other serious conditions based on 14 serious, potentially preventable adverse events. Healthgrades has also recognized STPH for overall outstanding patient experience—delivering a positive experience for patients during their hospital stay—as reported by patients. Such hospitals are in the top 15 percent in the nation for overall patient experience. Healthgrades evaluates patient experience performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, from a 32-question survey of the hospital’s own patients.

America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety by the Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare, signifies that STPH is in the top 15 percent of 3,005 U.S. hospitals for patient safety. Women’s Choice has also awarded recognition to STPH for America’s 100 Best Hospitals, Obstetrics, Heart Care, Cancer Care, Orthopedics and Patient Experience.
