You may already familiar with the Daisy Award, bestowed quarterly on St. Tammany Health System nurses singled out for on-the-job-excellence.

Now, STHS is introducing the Sunflower Award, which will honor the work of non-nursing colleagues.

Awarded based on nominations made by colleagues, patients, patient families or hospital visitors, the STHS Sunflower Award – technically “the Sunflower Award for Extraordinary Partners in Nursing Care” – will be bestowed quarterly on two deserving colleagues for “extraordinary acts of kindness and compassionate care and service excellence they demonstrate every day in their performance with their patients and patient’s families.”

Those colleagues honored with a Sunflower may work in either inpatient or outpatient settings, and they may be full-time, part-time or per diem.

They should also exemplify one or more of the following Sunflower standards:

Supports nursing staff, skillful, sincere, self-confident

Unique, understanding, upbeat

Nurturing, not afraid of change

Fosters positive interactions and connections with patients

Likeable, loyal, logical

Outgoing, open-minded, optimistic

Welcoming, willing, warm

Effective communicator, eager

Reliable, resourceful

Nominations can be made electronically at StTammany.health/ThankYou

All nominations will be reviewed blind by a committee of STHS colleagues and leaders.

In addition to a certificate in an embossed holder, Sunflower winners will receive a Sunflower pin, sunflower seeds for planting and an STHS swag bag. Those nominated but not selected as a winner will receive a thank-you note sent to their home address.
