Updated STHS visitors policy released

To protect health in our community and as a safety precaution to prevent the spread COVID-19, St. Tammany Health System continues to maintain visitor restrictions in accordance with recommendations from the CDC.

Please see below for the latest guidelines, effective July 7, 2021. This policy is subject to change. Please visit StTammany.health/visitors for the most up-to-date version of this policy.


Visitors must wear a mask at  all times that covers both nose and mouth.

General Visitor Guidelines:

  • Visitation is from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (After 9 p.m. any visitor staying with a patient is expected to remain in the patient’s room.)
  • Visitation for adult patients is limited to two persons at any given time. Those visitors must be at least 12 years or older.
  • Visitors are always to practice social distancing, including while in waiting rooms, cafeterias and shared areas.
  • Visitors must be free of fever and other symptoms to enter any STHS facility.
  • Visitors must arrive at the facility wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth.
  • Visitors will be asked to return home if they exhibit symptoms of respiratory infection, have had a positive COVID test in the previous 10 days, have a pending COVID test for symptoms, are unable to wear a mask OR do not comply with above policy.

Patients with COVID-19:

No visitors.

  • For COVID-positive end-of-life patients, visitor guidelines are adjusted on a case-by-case basis. visitors must wear a mask at all times in the patient’s room.
  • COVID-positive infusion patients: One support person allowed per patient. (Minors may have both parents or guardians present.)

Other special circumstances:

  • Laboring patients: Two support persons are allowed during labor and delivery but must remain with the patient. Following delivery (post-partum), two visitors are allowed. 
  • Obstetric patients in the New Family Center triage area: One support person is allowed but must remain at the patient’s bedside.
  • Minor child patients (under the age of 18): For patients being treated in the Emergency Department, undergoing surgery or other procedures, or admitted for an inpatient stay (NICU/ PICU/PEDS) a maximum of two parents or caretakers are allowed.
  • Non-COVID end-of-life patients: Spouse or partner, children, parents and siblings may visit together and be present 24/7.
  • Infusion patients: One support person allowed per patient. (Minors may have both parents or guardians present.)
  • COVID-positive infusion patients: One support person allowed per patient. (Minors may have both parents or guardians present.)
  • ED Secure Holding: Visitation is allowed at the discretion of the physician.  One adult only during visitation times. If a juvenile, then one adult visitor at a time with no other minor children present is allowed. Visiting is allowed at the discretion of the physician.

Note: This visitor policy may be adjusted for patient safety or compassionate reasons in a clinician’s judgment. As we continue to monitor the presence of COVID-19 in our community and adhere to state regulations, this policy is subject to change.
