A closer look at St. Tammany Health System's guiding principles.

St. Tammany Health System was founded in 1954 as St. Tammany Parish Hospital by a group of local community activists who saw a need to establish a local healthcare center dedicated to the health and well-being of residents on the Northshore.

While our Covington hospital is still very much at the center of what we do, we’ve grown to become so much more than that. With dozens of sites established throughout the region to bring healthcare directly into our communities, we have become a wide-ranging, multi-disciplinary nonprofit healthcare organization – thus the changing of our name to St. Tammany Health System in December 2019.

Our determination to deliver consistently compassionate care, however, remains the same as it was on day one, as does our commitment to quality and the community.

Mission

We are the heartbeat of our community, caring for our patients and their families with excellence, compassion and teamwork.

Vision

We will strengthen the health of our community with compassion, innovation and partnership.

Values

Teamwork | Trust | Compassion | Quality | Innovation.

Articulating our values:

  • We are a team, a community, a family devoted to helping and healing every patient every time, together.
  • We have faith in our caring work and pledge our honesty, courage, respect and integrity to each other and every patient in every encounter.
  • We care deeply about our patients and colleagues, treating each with empathy and respect, as if they were our own family.
  • We are accountable to our patients and each other to always deliver our very best, safest care, to strive for excellence and to consistently deliver on these promises.
  • We seek new knowledge, competencies, techniques, technology and best practices to bring new hope and healing to our patients close to home.

A closer look

From the beginning, St. Tammany Health System was formed to serve the community. That hasn't changed.

340B

Our 340B story

The 340B prescription drug program provides vital support for STHS’s role in providing world-class healthcare to residents of west St. Tammany and surrounding areas, regardless of their ability to pay. The program is narrowly tailored to help hospitals that provide a high level of service to low-income individuals or that serve rural communities. Savings realized through participation in the 340B program affords patients high quality care, no matter their income level or insurance coverage. The cost savings from the program allows the System to provide a wide array of needed treatments and services.
