The DAISY Award is an international recognition program to honor and celebrate the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. As of 2023, it has been implemented at more than 5,400 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 United States and 33 other countries and territories.
Administered by the DAISY Foundation, the award was founded by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.
All STHS DAISY nominees will be forwarded to a committee that will consider them blindly, with four winners selected every quarter.
In addition to a certificate in an embossed holder, winners will receive a DAISY pin to wear on their STHS name badge (so everyone will know how awesome they are); a one-of-a-kind Healer’s Touch trophy, each hand-carved by artists in the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe; and other benefits.
