Obstetric Emergency Department

STHS Obstetric Emergency Department

Built with new moms’ privacy, serenity and safety in mind.

Obstetric Emergency Department
Ask any parent: Not all emergencies are created equal.

For this reason, St. Tammany Health System has a newly expanded, next-generation Obstetric Emergency Department, or OBED. Located in the New Family Center on the third floor of the health system’s flagship St. Tammany Parish Hospital, it’s a space reserved specifically for expectant mothers experiencing the unexpected in their pregnancy journey.

Access the STHS Obstetric Emergency Department, through the main hospital entrance at 1202 S. Tyler St. and take the lobby elevator to the third floor.

What can Moms expect?

  • Six private triage rooms, all built with new moms’ serenity and safety in mind.
  • Around-the-clock staffing by a team of highly trained obstetric hospitalists and highly experienced maternity nurses.
  • Leading-edge diagnostic and monitoring maternity equipment.

So, breathe easy, moms — in through the nose, out through the mouth.

Because St. Tammany Health System is here for you, just as we have been since 1954.

Note: Those experiencing a non-maternity emergency should report directly to the main hospital Emergency Department just off South Tyler at West 11th Avenue and South Harrison Street.

But at St. Tammany Health System’s New Family Center – which has received the coveted “Baby-Friendly” designation, among numerous other honors – our team of caregivers are well-trained and well-practiced in making sure all our new parents and new babies feel as comfortable, coddled and cared for as possible on their family’s big day.
