Reconfiguration of an 11th Avenue crosswalk linking St. Tammany Health System’s main Emergency Department with a parking lot across the street got underway Wednesday (July 29). It is expected to continue through Saturday (Aug. 1).
The project, which will include an extension of the sidewalk on the parking lot side of 11th, is not expected to require the closure of 11th Avenue to traffic at any time. For the sake of the construction crew and patients, however, motorists are encouraged to exercise particular caution as they drive through the area.
Similarly, pedestrian access to the Emergency Department will be unaffected, although about 10 parking spaces in the ED lot will be reserved for construction vehicles for the duration of the work.
The project, undertaken to provide a safer and more direct route from the parking lot to the hospital’s Emergency Department, is part of an emphasis on pedestrian safety across STHS’s Covington hospital campus.
